Manchester City Football Club Review
Manchester City Football Club (also well-known as Man City, City, The Blues, The Citizens) is an English professional football club situated in the city of Manchester. The home ground is the City of Manchester Stadium. It is a 48,000-seater stadium based in East Manchester. The first club's stadium was Maine Road. Manchester City had spent there 80 years before leaving.
The chairman of the club is Thai businessman, politician and the former Prime Minister of Thailand - Thaksin Shinawatra. The present manager is Sven-Göran Eriksson. He is a Swedish football manager who played for such clubs as: Torsby IF (1966–71), SK Sifhälla (1971–73), KB Karlskoga (1973–75). Eriksson is famous for winning the league-and-cup double in three different countries ( Sweden , Portugal and Italy ). Previously he was a manager of such teams as: Degerfors IF (1977–78), IFK Göteborg (1979–82), SL Benfica (1982–84), AS Roma (1984–87), AC Fiorentina (1987–89), SL Benfica (1989–92), U.C. The club was formed by Anna Connell and William Beastow, Thomas Goodbehere in 1880. The first name was St. Marks (West Gorton), then they changed the name to Ardwick A.F.C. Eventually they became Manchester City in 1887. Now the club is a member of the English Premier League. The period of glory was during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Man City won major trophies under the control of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison and with a help of professional players such as Colin Bell and Francis Lee. Manchester City has its Academy that based at Platt Lane in Moss Side. It was set up in 1998. The director is Jim Cassell. Coaching staff consists of: Alex Gibson, Paul Power, Steve Eyre. The Academy includes such facilities as: two full size grass football pitches, a full sized Astro-turf pitch and a smaller six-a-side area. It provides Youth Programme, according to which they develop young football players mostly for Manchester City, but also give them a chance to make a career for other clubs. Thus, Tyrone Mears and Chris Killen both making careers at Derby County and Celtic. Seven Academy Graduates among which are: Shaun Wright-Phillips, Micah Richards and Joey Barton gained full international honours. Manchester City FC has also a reserve team since 1892. It is a Manchester City Reserves that currently plays in the Barclays Premiership Reserve League North. The present main squad of the team is:
